Q: Do you provide grants for all of Alaska or just the Mat-Su Borough?
A: The Mat-Su Health Foundation provides grants for health and wellness projects either in the Mat-Su Borough or to organizations that serve Mat-Su residents.
Q: What sorts of projects are funded by Mat-Su Health Foundation?
A: We seek to fund projects that improve the health and wellness of residents of the Mat-Su Borough as outlined in our grant guidelines. We do this through Healthy Impact and Discovery grants (grants over $25,000), Target Wellness grants (up to and including $25,000), and Technical Assistance grants. We also provide scholarships to Matanuska-Susitna Borough residents to help defray the cost of higher education and encourage Mat-Su residents to complete a degree or certificate program that emphasizes health, healthcare, human services, and/or wellness.
Q: When are grants considered?
A: Requests for Healthy Impact, Discovery, Target Wellness, and Technical Assistance grants are accepted throughout the year.
Q: Are there funding limits for grants?
A: Healthy Impact grants and Discovery grants fund projects in excess of $25,000. Target Wellness grants are for projects up to and including $25,000. Technical Assistance grants are typically under $25,000 with a few exceptions.
Q: After I’ve submitted my grant application package, how long does it take before I know whether my project will be funded or not?
A: Grantees will be notified of the status of their grant application for Target Wellness grants within 30 to 45 days following submission. For Technical Assistance grants, notifications will be made within 60 days. For Healthy Impact grants and Discovery grants, notification will be made approximately 120 days following the submission of the full application.
Q: Do I have to be a non-profit organization in order to receive a grant?
A: Yes. Prospective grantees must be qualified Alaska nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations classified as not a private foundation under section 509(a) of the Code. Please review our grant guidelines for more details. In select cases, MSHF may also choose to fund health-related projects undertaken by religious, governmental, educational, or tribal agencies seeking partners for health-related initiatives that impact the broader Mat-Su community and extend beyond the traditional purpose and functions of these organizations.
